10225 - UCS: R2-D2

SSD is done in US ; unless it shows up @ another retailer then i would say its not done. anything/everything that popped up were not with recent seal code either. that leads to that its done.

GE supposedly done back in may still is in/out from amazon and walmart ( at least that i know of. i can provide you recent proof of purchase as well). seal codes are as recent as week of 40R4 which is october. so i doubt its done.

TH was also in/out of walmart and target. i didnot purchase this set. but the last lot were 37R4 which is very recent.

now if they don't show up again then i would believe that they are done but not untill then.

also R2-D2 most recent of my purchase in october has seal of 36R4 that's from late september. so if TLG is running as late as that i doubt that its done....

if TLG is a company that's run to make profit then why would they retire sets that are selling like hot-cake and for those that are being made as recent as a month ago.

Stop it with the production stickers.  Please.

I for one have never seen anything where Ed tries to stoke the flames for affiliate sales.  Most all of the info he gives out is done after the item is already OOS on most sites.  Wouldn't make much sense to stoke anything when someone can't buy it to begin with.   This site has a wealth of information for FREE and a lot of people on here wouldn't even mind paying for it so I would hope anyone would be happy to click on an affiliate link to keep it free for as long as possible. Not to much to ask.

Plus the riddles are very amusing especially for the forums they are made in that day.

Speaking of hidden messages, how many boards exactly did BA post "the calm before the storm on..."

could be a trivia question for the day!

I think folks here really underestimate how many of their end customers are kids.  I have gotten so many emails, notes with PayPal payments, etc., over the years for $300 - $400 sets saying 'please don't include an invoice; it's a gift for my grandson', etc.).  So yes, lots of exclusives are bought for kids, and kids like to play.  What's the play value of a $400 R2 relative to its cost?  Relative to a DS?  Or a retired HH?  Think about it.  Play value matters less for a 10179 or a Picasso painting for that matter, because these are intended for adults, just to sit there and look good on display.  Read the online reviews for R2.  This is mostly a set bought for kids.  It is not an SSD or even a modular building (which incidentally has both display and play value; how cool is that?).  It's really funny how saying something like 'I think R2 is less impressive than GE or DS' attracts so much hate on this site.  It's like we live in some sort of socialist utopia where all Lego exclusives must be equally loved.  Read what I said.  I own 12 R2 sets.  I hope it does great.  Really.  I sank two grand into them.  Is it so unreasonable to say that the set 'excites' me less than some other exclusives?

Since this is the most active thread. Could someone who knows how to find stuff better than me, direct me towards the chart someone posted of the lifetime of exclusives in order from oldest to newest. Thank you.

Here is what you're looking for I think.  Thank Spanky.

well articulated.

i like R2-D2 as well. :) even then,  i don't believe this set is done :) ... even if it is done i will still be able to make my target number for this in next 6 months. :) i am sure few lost pallets will show up somewhere :P

Not at all.  I don't think that R2 is the equal of and SSD, TH or HH.  Close if things work out.  I guess I speak from the viewpoiunt of a long term reseller.  I am not interested in selling these $200 sets for $400.  My target audience is 5-10 years from now and is $800-$1000.  Most kids are not buying those sets.

i would rather sell for $400 in a year than $1000 in 10 if were talking pure ROI.

assuming 3% inflation holding costs and lost opportunities on other "buy-ins" (unless you have unlimited space and funds) $400/1 year is a better deal

I have a first edition Falcon and the number on the certificate is 12000-something, I think. Definitely higher than 10k.

In R2 news, the Canoga Park Lego store in SoCal has at least 4 R2s and 1 Tumber as of a few hours ago. I'd have snagged them myself except that the manager is limiting purchases (2 R2s and 1 Tumbler per household). She recognized me from yesterday and let me get away with an extra purchase, but the remaining ones are out of my reach, I'm afraid.

I never said my method made sense or money...
