The other day I got a chance to see the 2014 Ninjago boxes on the shelves.  For the most part, we will see grey boxes in the midst of green (2013) for a while.  Most 2014 boxes have similar sizes to 2013 boxes.  The only jaring one was the smallest set, 70720 (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Hover-Hunter-70720).  Compared to 70500 (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kai-s-Fire-Mech-70500), 70720's boxes are much thinner and only slightly wider.  We get less pieces (79 vs 102) but higher MSRP (11.99 vs 9.99).  WTH LEGO ??

The gigantic rampage saw and airplane engine things probably knocked the price up a bit.

I saw three Ninjacopter 70724 on the shelf at a Target in Summerville SC today.  When I scanned them for a price it said "item not found"!

I had that happen before with random items returned back to the shelf and even some of the DK books. There is a chance when scanned at the checkout it may come up correctly in the system. However for the times it doesn't, you can purchase the item at the lowest price they can sell it to you for. I once found an Ewok Attack at Target and was only charged $6 for the set without tax simply because "item not found".

Kinda yeah but look at all the big Hero Factory parts Kai's Fire Mech has plus two minifigures.

Now compare that to the tiny and flat Hover Hunter.

The big mech dwarfs the small craft and has a lot more bulkier parts so the sudden $2 price increase feels ridiculous really. Actually, what happened to the $9.99 set and why do they cost more nowadays when you're getting the same thing or less as before?

Ninjago was being bought and pleaded for hard style at the north attleboro tru this morning.  Boxes are very eye catching...not sure if it's due to box art, or just  the contrast  of surrounding/usual lego coloring.  Saw a couple mech dragons being bought and plenty of the smaller sets.  I honestly felt bad for some of the people paying over msrp for so many lego sets today at tru.  Kind  of a hypocrite though....the same practice may not butter my bread, but it does ala mode my pie....who am I to judge.
