No idea what theme this is from but new 2017 chess set 40174 £45.99 seen at lego store

Why not buy and flip now for £200 with Best Offer stating it's rare which it currently is?

Some mug may take the bait ;-)  Anything not on LEGO's website or anywhere else is easy money on eBay!

I was doing that with 60151 Dragster Transporters when Tesco unboxed 24 of them a little too early (boxes said DO NOT PUT ON SHELF).

BTW... No theme... It's the best chess set ever (I hate themed chess) and I'm buying one as soon as I can!

Wow, that's bland.

That's what diehard chess players want and I've waited for a set like this for a very long time. If anybody can get one to my front door in Reading by tomorrow morning, I have £100 waiting - I mean it! We have an annual Chess Tournament in our local pub on Boxing Day and how can I not take this masterpiece with me? If not, I'm going through hell to get to Leicester Square tomorrow afternoon.

Put some Marmite on it.

i like it a lot.  i am tired of a these cute/theme chess sets and spend all my time wondering if bumblebee is the rook or bishop or is bobafett a knight or is that bland pirate a pawn.  ugh, finally a chess set that looks like a chess set.

Pawn is to play, porn is to look at.

Huh, a LEGO chess set ....that looks like a chess set. I like the mosaic pattern across the sides of the playing case and the brickbuilt builds should make moving the tokens around easier than constantly fiddling with the many prior minifigure incarnations though fun were still sometimes a pain just to move from one square to another not to mention the constant character confusion. (Is that a Bishop or a Rook? A Queen?! I can't remember!) Overall there is a sense of simplicity but it is chess after all plus everything stores into the case rather well.

Officially released on January 17th, 2017. A non-themed LEGO Chess set, with the included variant of the American Pool-Checkers game:

It's got 1450 bricks, and costs $54.99 (US), £45.99 in the UK, and €54,99 / €59,99 (Germany / Netherlands respectively) in Europe.

That makes a pretty good price per brick ratio with a nice collection of tiles and interesting/useful bricks as well.

And here's a speed build of the set:
